FUNGIBLE FRIDAY
If you’ve been busy grinding this week, then you’d be forgiven for missing some of the key headlines. The WGMI newsletter is here to make sure you don’t miss a thing. Here’s what we’ll be discussing:
- A golden Bored Ape sold for almost $1 million
- Two rare Moonbirds sold after the project announced it is moving ‘in-chain’
- ApeCoin blocks North American users from staking
- Chimpers collabs with Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
- Bored Ape Yacht Club announces the ‘Trial of Jimmy the Monkey’ begins this Christmas
Golden Bored Ape Sold For $926,184
Solid GoldBored Ape (#232) sold this week for 800 ETH.
Deepak.eth, CEO of Chain, sold the solid gold ape to Keungz. You can see Keungz’s stacked NFT collection here.
The Ape’s rarest trait is Solid Gold fur (0.46 percent), followed by its Smoking Jacket (2 percent).
Two Moonbird 'Grails' Sell For $40k and $50k
Following the announcement earlier this week that Moonbirds will be moving its art ‘in-chain’, two rare Moobird ‘grails’ were quickly snapped up.
The first sale was a gold Moonbird #2404 which sold for 35 ETH ($40,453), and then a jade Moonbird #7963 sold for 43 ETH ($49,539).
These two sales inspired a flurry of Moonbird volume, which is up 30% from last week.
ApeCoin Blocks US and Canada From Staking
If you’re from the US or Canada and were looking forward to staking your $APE, then I’ve got some good news and some bad news.
The bad news
The bad news is that ApeCoin holders in North America will be restricted from staking their $APE on ApeStake.io. North Korea, Syria, Iran, Cuba, Russia, and the Russian-controlled areas of Ukraine, Crimea, Donetsk, and Luhansk are also on the block list.
Horizen Labs, the company responsible for delivering the $APE staking program, explained that “unfortunately, in today’s regulatory environment, we had no good alternative”.
The good news
If you’re on the block list, then fear not. Zeneca recently tweeted that those from geo-blocked regions will still be able to stake by interacting with the smart contract directly or using another interface without geo-blocks (i.e. just not on ApeStake.io). Those in blocked regions could, in theory, also use a VPN to spoof their location.
ApeStake.io will go live on December 5, 2022.
If that hasn’t cheered you up, then this might. The ApeCoin DAO has also recently launched its own marketplace to buy and sell NFTs from the Yuga Labs ecosystem.
The marketplace will respect creator royalties while heavily reducing fees. A 0.25% slice of each sale is held in a multisig wallet and used to fund DAO initiatives.
Chimpers X Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
After releasing its arcade game for holders earlier this week, Chimpers is back with another banger announcement.
Chimpers will be collaborating with Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Paramount, according to a Tweet.
The Tweet includes a trailer of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Chimpers characters exploring a pixel-art world. The exact details of what the collaboration will entail are not yet entirely clear.
The Chimpers floor price is up nearly 20% this week at 1.42 ETH (at the time of writing).
Trial of Jimmy the Monkey Begins This Christmas
Bored Ape Yacht Club announced on Twitter that the “Trial” will begin this Christmas.
By looking at the BAYC roadmap, we can safely assume this refers to The Trial of Jimmy The Monkey. The roadmap artwork shows a handcuffed Jimmy with a nearby placard that states “The Trial of Jimmy The Monkey (MD vs. MMI: Prologue)”.
In true BAYC style, the exact details of the event are shrouded in mystery. The ‘MD v MM’ reference has led many to believe that the community will be split into two camps and pitted against each other in some kind of competition.
The game/competition theory checks out, with Yuga recently hiring a Chief Gaming Officer, Spencer Tucker.
Interestingly, the announcement included an image of a monkey’s hands holding a locked box. The box has a dog on it, which suggests the Bored Ape Kennel Club companion NFTs may be included in the Trial events. This speculation has led to a floor price increase of around 15% to 5.3 ETH for the Kennel Club collection.
