The NBA is showing its support for Web3 through the launch of its own NBAxNFT Discord server and Twitter account.
According to a spokesperson from the league, the accounts will not just be bound to all things NFT, as they will also be dedicated to the league’s footprint in gaming and the metaverse. In addition, the two new avenues of fan interaction will also serve as the league’s bulletin board to keep fans updated with the latest insight and events.
In wake of its successful preliminary entrance into blockchain ongoings (which has seen at least 37,000 members join the NBAxNFT Discord server, and 14,000 follow its Twitter account) the league is already planning to launch an NFT project to celebrate the NBA Playoffs. However, it is “not quite ready to announce the specifics”.
In a sense, the popularity of NBA-come-blockchain endeavours has already been tried and tested through the likes of Dapper Labs’ NBA Top Shot NFT concept. Given the huge success of this project, it can be reasonably assumed that NBAxNFT should face no more hurdles in building a substantial customer base for its projects – rather, the success of the project will largely be determined by the quality and ambition of its efforts.
