So, you want to make an AI avatar for free?
Well, you’re in the right place. By the end of this article, you’ll know exactly how to make a video of an AI avatar (that looks just like you).
Not only are these AI avatars super fun to create, but you could use them in all kinds of cool ways:
- Birthday messages: Send your friends and families a cartoon version of themselves for their birthday
- Engaging educational content: Make your educational content more engaging with a virtual teacher / guide
- Create an AI-hosted YouTube series: Develop a series of entertaining videos hosted by an engaging AI avatar

Step 1: Create your free avatar
If you want to create an avatar of yourself or a friend, then you can create it with Playgroundai.
- Go to playgroundai.com and log in.
- Select “Canvas” then upload an image of yourself (or whoever you want to make an avatar of).
- Generate your avatar with this prompt: “A happy pixar character, young adult, open eyes with a coat and tie”. Amend the prompt as you see fit.
- Download the avatar.

Step 2: Access the plugin in Canva
You can use the HeyGen plugin in Canva to create an AI avatar video.
- Click on “Apps” in the left-hand menu of Canva
- Click on the HeyGen plugin
- Then “Use in new design” and “Video”

Step 3: Generate your video
Now is the time to add a script and select the a voice.
- Upload your avatar
- Write your script and select a voice
- Click on “Generate AI video”

Step 4: Customize and upload
After making some final tweaks to the video, it will be good to go.
- Change the avatar size
- Add or change video background
- Download by clicking on “Share” at top right
