ChatGPT Prompts For Emails (Save Hours Every Day)

May 18, 2023

Email marketing is fundamental for a successful business. Emails build a relationship of trust with your customers, and keep your products and services fresh in the consumers’ minds.

In this section, we set out a number of different email marketing strategies that you can use to boost sales for your business. You can save tonnes of time writing these emails with ChatGPT.

Sticky Subject Lines

Your first job is to stand out in an overcrowded inbox (while avoiding the spam folder). We have to grab attention and avoid being too clickbaity. It’s a tricky balance, and ChatGPT can help us strike it.

Prompt: I am writing an email to my email list about [TOPIC] [DESCRIBE THE VALUE IT OFFERS READERS (IF APPLICABLE)]
I need you to write a sticky subject line for the email. The email subject line should:
Use simple language - be VERY short - be descriptive - avoid spam words like "buy now" or "free" etc.
The email subject line could (but doesn't have to): - give a clear demand - share something valuable - make an announcement - say something unexpected or intriguing - inspire curiosity - suggest exclusivity or urgency

Welcome Emails

Welcome email read rates are 42% higher than the average email. People also click links in them way more (nearly 2x more). It’s an incredible opportunity to get your audience to buy something. Make sure your welcome email is optimized for this opportunity. Use ChatGPT to help you write it.

Prompt: I run a business called [BUSINESS NAME], selling [PRODUCTS/SERVICES] and I have just started an email marketing campaign. I need to write a welcome email for new subscribers to my mailing list.

The email should start with a warm thank you to the subscriber for joining the mailing list. It should then provide positive affirmation, reinforcing that they've made the right decision by subscribing.

The next part of the email should set clear expectations about the type of emails they will receive from us, highlighting the value these emails will provide to them. This includes: [DETAILS OF EMAILS SENT TO MAILING LIST]

Finally, the email should conclude with a compelling call to action: [INSERT DETAILS OF THE THING YOU WANT THE CUSTOMER TO DO / PROVIDE A DISCOUNT ON THE FIRST PURCHASE]

Considering these elements, how should I structure and phrase my welcome email?

Sales Emails

Sales emails play a crucial role in nurturing relationships with your subscribers and moving them down the sales funnel.

This section will guide you in crafting two different types of sales emails: the Spotlight Email and the Free Credit Email. Each has its own unique role and approach, but both are geared towards engaging your audience and driving sales.

1. Spotlight email

A Spotlight email shines the limelight on a specific product or service you believe your reader will find valuable. It serves to not only introduce the product but to explain its value, provide social proof, and depict the transformation it can bring to the reader’s life.

Prompt: I run a business called [BUSINESS NAME] that sells [PRODUCTS/SERVICES]. I want to spotlight one of our products, [PRODUCT NAME], in an email to our subscribers. This product offers [VALUE IT PROVIDES]. We have a client testimonial from [CLIENT NAME] that says, "[CLIENT TESTIMONIAL]". I want to paint a picture of the transformation this product can bring, moving our customers from their current (difficult) situation to a much better one. How can I structure this Spotlight Email effectively?

The email must be very easy to read and consume. That means it should:

- Have most important message at the top, and repeat it at the end
- Use bullet points and short paragraphs
- Use bold, italic and underlines to highlight key points.

2. Free credit email

A Free Credit Email is a gesture of appreciation towards your valued customers, offering them a token of gratitude in the form of store credit. This type of email not only fosters goodwill but also encourages recipients to make a purchase, giving them an extra nudge down the sales funnel.

Prompt: I run a business called [BUSINESS NAME]. I want to send out an email to our valued customers, offering them [DOLLAR AMOUNT] of free credit to spend on our [PRODUCT/SERVICE]. They can claim this credit using the code [CODE] at checkout. How should I phrase this Free Credit Email to express our appreciation while also encouraging them to make a purchase?
The email must be very easy to read and consume. That means it should:

- Have most important message at the top, and repeat it at the end
- Use bullet points and short paragraphs
- Use bold, italic and underlines to highlight key points.

Retargeting Emails

Retargeting emails, specifically abandoned cart emails, serve a crucial role in e-commerce by re-engaging customers who showed initial interest in your products but didn’t complete their purchase. We can use ChatGPT to help us write emails that will persuade customers to continue where they left off.

Prompt: I run an online store called [BUSINESS NAME] selling [PRODUCT/SERVICE]. I've noticed that many customers are abandoning their shopping carts and I want to send a retargeting email to bring them back. The email needs to be engaging and far from transactional. I would like to incorporate one of the following to to make it more compelling: emotion, excitement, humor or a discount.
Also, I want to make sure the email is easy to read and consume, with the most important message at the top and repeated at the end. Can you help me write an effective retargeting email that could entice customers to complete their purchase?

Seasonal Email Brainstorm

Seasonal themes provide an excellent opportunity to tap into the cultural zeitgeist and create a shared connection between your business and your customers.

By aligning your product offerings with popular cultural events or themes (such as the Superbowl, the World Cup, Olympics, Summer, Halloween, and any other significant event), you can add an element of timeliness and relevance to your emails that can significantly boost engagement.

Use this prompt to brainstorm email content that taps into this opportunity.

Prompt: My business is [YOUR BUSINESS DETAILS] and I want to create a series of seasonal emails around the theme of [POPULAR CURRENT THEME]. I'd like to find ways to connect this theme with my products or services. Please brainstorm 5 compelling email content ideas that weave together the theme of [POPULAR CURRENT THEME] with the specifics of my business. Consider the unique aspects of the event or season and how they can be related to the features and benefits of my products/services.
