Italian football club Societu00e0 Sportiva Lazio (a.k.a Lazio) is consulting the Web3 expertise of Binance to introduce an NFT ticketing solution for its home games at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome.u00a0
The companies have partnered to provide Lazio supporters with NFT tickets for every home match during the 2022/23 season. The NFT tickets will also be embedded with discounts at the clubu2019s store, token giveaways, and other experiences involving the club.u00a0
As many a football fan will already know, the endeavour comes in the wake of the absolute carnage caused by the ticketing system in play during Mayu2019s Champions League Final between Real Madrid and Liverpool at the Stade de France in Paris. Due to the event’s physical and digital (but Web2) ticketing solution, thousands of counterfeit tickets were in circulation, ultimately leading to chaotic instances of police brutality and the match being delayed by half an hour.u00a0
Although none of Laziou2019s home matches are expected to emulate such tensions (apart from perhaps the derby match with A.S. Roma), its new blockchain-leveraging ticketing solution is set to eradicate any risks of fake tickets, scalping, and general disorder when fans enter the stadium. That being said, many blockchain-come-football fans will now be hoping that such a strategy will be implemented at events that carry the same weight as the Champions League Final, such as during the matches at the upcoming World Cup in Qatar.u00a0
