Azuki Is Gamifying NFT Merch

December 8, 2022

Last month, Azuki released a number of hoodies that can be scanned with a phone to mint a Physical Backed Token (PBT).

The PBT is a digital twin of the physical item, is non-transferable, and cannot be sold.

This week, as purchasers received their hoodies in the mail, Azuki revealed that the Physical Backed Tokens connected to the hoodies have different rarities: Common, Rare, Epic, and Legendary. Owners can scan their hoodies on the Azuki website to reveal the rarity of their PBT.

Owners can even put their digital hoodies on their Azuki NFT, allowing holders to flex their hoodies in the virtual world (as well as the real world).

Adding rarity to merch drops includes an element of gamification in the merchandise experience. The hunt for everything rare and shiny directly taps into our typical degen monkey brains, so I expect we’ll see a lot more of these kinds of NFT merch drops in the future.
