For the third time this year, a mass NFT theft has been facilitated through the hacking of Discord servers of projects owned by Yuga Labs.
This time around, the theft was made possible through the hacking of Boris Vagner’s Discord account, who is the community manager of multiple Yuga Labs projects. The hack led to phishing links being posted in the official BAYC Discord server, as well as the server for the highly anticipated Otherside project.
Although originally reported by NFTherder that 145 ETH had been stolen and deposited in four separate wallets, later acknowledgments from BAYC confirmed that over 200 ETH ($360,000) worth of NFT had been stolen.
Our Discord servers were briefly exploited today. The team caught and addressed it quickly. About 200 ETH worth of NFTs appear to have been impacted. We are still investigating, but if you were impacted, email us at [email protected].

The hackers were also able to post phishing links in the Discord server of Spoiled Banana Society NFT, a project co-founded by Vagner and his brother. However, these links were able to be deleted rather swiftly, with minimal damage inflicted in the process.
Whilst undoubtedly objectively harmful (especially given it’s the third one for Yuga Labs to suffer within the past three months), perhaps the most worrying take-away from the attack is that its $360,000 valuation pales in comparison to the damage caused in the recent attack on Beeple’s social media accounts, as well as the theft of 29 Moonbirds from a single collector’s wallet.
