NFT of the Week: STEPN Shoeboxes
STEPN is a Web3 lifestyle app with Social-Fi and Game-Fi elements. Users equipped with NFT Sneakers – walk, jog or run outdoors to earn GST, which can be used to level up and mint new Sneakers. The STEPN team recently launched an NFT collection called STEPN Shoeboxes which is a collection of 2,841 mystery boxes that were airdropped for free to select BAYC holders.
STEPN Shoeboxes contain an NFT sneaker of random quality and type and are usable within the STEPN mobile app. STEPN’s NFT Sneaker is both a collectible and utility tool. In STEPN, the NFT Sneaker is a “mining machine”. Users can move and earn GST tokens.
Why STEPN Shoeboxes is our NFT of the Week
STEPN Shoeboxes recently took the world by storm once the team announced that they will be airdropping NFTs to select BAYC holders. Despite launching less than three days ago, the collection floor price of this free collection already reached a peak of more than 4.2 ETH.
TL;DR: A mobile software tech giant called STEPN recently launched its own NFT collection that incorporates #Move2Earn technology. This free airdrop reached a peak of more than 4.2 ETH less than 24 hours ago which makes this one of the top performing collections of the week on OS by volume.

STEPN is created by Find Satoshi Lab, an Australian-based fintech studio. The team won the 2021 Solana Ignition Hackathon Gaming Track and is part of DeFi Alliance Gaming cohort. STEPN currently boasts more than 39 employees from across the globe on LinkedIn. Both the company as well as the team’s information can be found by visiting the website below.
Marketing / Community
STEPN is a Web2 company that has done a great job garnering followers on various social media platforms even long before the launch of their NFT collection.
Thanks to this, STEPN currently has more than 336.9k members on Discord, and more than 646k followers on Twitter at the time of writing.
Most of the team’s marketing efforts are put into Twitter and Instagram, with important announcements also being shared on their Discord server.
Currently, there is some FUD going around within the STEPN Discord channel from disgruntled members complaining about the NFT and token floor prices which is to be expected as the collection hit a floor price of more than 4.2 ETH less than 24 hours ago.
No public roadmap has yet been released, but the overall vision and the direction of STEPN Shoeboxes and the STEPN ecosystem can be found by visiting their public whitepaper here.
STEPN has an extensive whitepaper with a long-term vision to monetize with various ecosystem partners using “realms” in order to onboard more users and offer new value propositions to the community.
A Realm is a server that hosts a fork of the game – different users play the same game in different realms. A Realm could be built on a new Layer 1 Blockchain, or on STEPN’s existing Layer 1 Blockchain.
Weekly Picks: Recently Launched Projects
Tableland Rigs is a generative collection of 3k handcrafted rig NFTs which could be combined and upgraded to form new NFTs (photo example provided below). Tableland Rigs combines metaverse gaming along with dynamic Web3 experiences through relational data and SQL technology. This allows different companies and platforms to incorporate Tableland Rigs alongside their own collection(s) using new parameters in a universally well-known coding language.
The power of Rigs is in their ability to evolve with immutable on-chain rules—a powerful primitive enabled by the Tableland protocol. Based on how an owner decides to explore Tableland, their Rig will change before their eyes.
The team also intends to launch developer experiences in the future that will only be available to Rig pilots, and the first one of these cohorts is scheduled to launch sometime this summer. From there, Tableland will serve as a launching point for scheduling regular community programs, special events, funding, and grants and meeting new investors and collaborators.
The mint price for Tableland Rigs price was 0.05 ETH, and the project first launched approximately five days ago. The collection has seen more than 1.4k ETH in trade volume, and it ranks as one of the top trending projects on OS this week.

9999 Luftballoons is a collection of 9,999 hand-drawn balloons NFTs. The collection is an experimental airdrop that supports token splitting. Owning a Luftballoon grants holders $LUFT tokens which are spendable on future airdropped NFTs using a decentralized smart contract. The collection currently has no Discord server or even a website, making it a somewhat experimental and speculative play at this time.
The project currently has only 1,251 followers on Twitter, but still, they are trying to do something genuinely innovative by distributing NFTs via airdrops using “Sybil protection,” preventing bots from being able to abuse their airdrop process.
The collection floor price reached a top of 0.03 ETH before sitting at its current floor price of 0.01 ETH at writing. The ‘9999 Luftballoons’ collection has also seen more than 169 ETH worth of trade volume since first being airdropped on July 17th, just three days back.
Fractura by Mathias Isaken
Fractura is a generative art project created by artist, Mathias Isaken in collaboration with gm.studio. Gm.studio is a generative art platform created by the gmDAO which is a community run project built by artists, and they are also the world’s first completely decentralized art platform. Gm.studio believes that art should be inclusive & accessible to all which is why they implemented two practices into their ethos which will allow for equal opportunity for every applicant:
1. A blind curation process
2. Artists pay no fees upfront (the studio handles marketing, deployment & rendering costs)
Using their innovative practices, Gm.Studio has been helping other artists to launch their own NFT projects, and they have been working wonders for Fractura. The mint price for a Fractura NFT was 0.15 ETH, and the floor price of Fractura sits at 1.94 ETH at writing. The collection has seen more than 2.7k ETH worth of trade volume since its launch less than four days ago.

Katatonik is an upcoming collection of 9,999 ‘Kats’ crafted by a number of Hollywood’s best 3D digital artists. These are artists who have worked on beloved animated films such as Kung Fu Panda and How To Train Your Dragon. Each Kat will have the capacity to be fully animated and is created with the level of detail we’d come to expect from a DreamWorks movie. The quality of the art is that good, each Kat could drop into one of the above movies as an extra without arousing any suspicion at all.
Katatonik claims that it will be “more than just another 3D project”. It has the long-term ambition of becoming a globally recognized brand by relying on a team of more than 100, and what it hopes will be a strong community. As of now, there are 385 confirmed traits, and partnerships with leading IRL brands are being teased.
With the long-term commitment of a bonafide Hollywood experienced design team, and close to $1,000,000 already funded into the project via the team’s own investment, alongside other third-party investors, the project certainly has a solid foundation.
Katatonik’s roadmap has been designed as a 4 phase plan of action. As of this moment, prior to launch, we are seeing phase 1 unfold. The roadmap can be seen in our in depth WGMI Project Spotlight by clicking here.
The Katatonik team consists of over 100 people when taking into consideration the studios it has partnered with such as Neko. Unfortunately, many of them don’t have bio’s available. However, we can learn about core members on our in-depth WGMI project spotlight.
At a glance, the raw community metrics for Katatonik may not seem to be overly impressive, especially when compared to other upcoming hyped projects. However, there is still cause for excitement. The fact that the project is being led by two artists who have worked on some of the highest rated animated movies ever, really cannot be ignored. The 3D artwork is objectively stunning even if you don’t like the designs, the level of detail is arguably up there with the best we’ve seen in an NFT project.
It has also been revealed that a Non-Compete Disclosure Agreement has been signed by the core members of the team which legally binds them to the project for a predetermined number of years which suggests commitment. It’s fair to say that there is genuine belief in the project from those involved. The Roadmap is solid, there is the promise of great utility in the future and a desire to make a full feature film. In addition, the game sounds like a brilliant yet realistic ambition due to its partnership with Neko Productions.
Often when gauging an upcoming project, we go through a checklist. While Katatonik does tick a good number of boxes, the biggest potential concern is the community. For a project with the resources and team that it has, why is the community so small compared to other NFT brands that arguably don’t have the same resources?
In addition, 3D artstyle NFT projects are known to have faced a challenging time in the NFT space recently. Many months ago when 3D art style projects were trending, Katatonik would have enjoyed more success during the build-up. However, in the current market, many 3D projects automatically face a harder time. It’s possible that Katatonik will be able to navigate through the stigma due to its impressive team. The WGMI team is excited to see how Katatonik rolls out.

Hidden Gem of the Week
Looking to join the expanding list of on-chain P2E card games, is the Evolution Card Collection from Trophy Hunters. Consisting of 5,715 playing cards, the collection revolves around 12 key characters, differentiated by more than 1500 unique traits. During mint, buyers will also be given the opportunity to claim a membership card, granting access to exclusive benefits such as the right to get a min pass (future mints), and the right to vote. The membership card will be both a digital asset as well as a physical card and will be free to all (plus gas).
According to the founder, the goal of Trophy Hunters is to discover and open up the possibilities within Web3 through transparency to the marketplace. He states that the playing cards are just the first step which suggests that is more to come as the project evolves. 200 ETH has been promised as a reward fund, equating to 50% on mint takings. This will be shared amongst over 203 players, with first place taking 20 ETH, diluting down to 0.5 ETH for the final prize winners. Trophy hunters claim to be a private club that produces collections, as opposed to being the name of the collection itself, somewhat comparing themselves to teams such as Yuga Labs and Truth Labs. The Evolution Card collection is their first project, so it remains to be seen if they can establish themselves in the space.
Kicking off with mint, we currently only have details on season 1 of the project.
- Season 1 Contest – 203 winners to share 200 ETH between them.
- Free PFP – Holders will be able to mint their own PFP NFT
- Keep It Hot – All token holders will be able to take part in contests
- Alpha Access – Holders will get free access to the Trophy Hunters Alpha group
- 3D Metaverse Compatible PFP – Free NFT that can plug right into the Metaverse
- Game Dev – Blockchain-based game with Evolution Card integration
- To Be Continued – Season 2 details to be revealed in time
The Trophy Hunters website only displays 2 individuals as the team, and despite our usual detective work, we were unable to dig out many more. The team is either incredibly small, or it’s just a case of no information provided.
Founder – Andrew
Andrew, known as Huggy on Twitter, has doxxed himself on Instagram. Whilst he has identified himself as a Blockchain project manager, it is unclear what his background is within the NFT space.
Investor and Advisor – Yegor
Based in Spain, Yegor is the founder and CEO of REMY Robotics. His history with NFTs isn’t obvious, so we can’t be sure how impactful his advice will be. However, it’s likely his investment goes a long way considering the industry his company lies within.
Community Manager – Ben 10
Seemingly an experienced mod and community manager, Ben 10 is involved with Gopher Network, Hikari, and MintStory alongside his role at Trophy Hunters.
Trophy Hunters has been able to align itself with some well-established names within the NFT space, such as Champs Only, Kaiju Kingz, and Doodles Alpha. Whilst this isn’t a marker for guaranteed success, it does provide some encouragement that it has some big eyes on it who have, at the very least, a passing interest in how it develops. Further to this, we’re seeing more projects looking to bring something new as this bear market continues.
Whilst blockchain-based card games already exist, it’s good to see Trophy Hunters’ entry, being a project with some exciting utility. The opportunity to win a share of 200 ETH is also an attractive proposition when combined with a strong community. This, and a very cost-effective mint price could be what we need during these ongoing, troublesome conditions.
Whilst as individuals, those behind the project may have had success with NFT collections (although this is not specified). As a team, this is its first foray into this world. Not only is it launching its first collection, but it’s going to be a P2E, on-chain game, which it is an incredibly difficult space to thrive in.
As of now, we’ve seen hundreds of games appear, however, few have been able to disrupt the space enough to make a long lasting impact. Further to this, Gods Unchained could be put forward as one of the market leaders in the NFT card niche, and that’s led by the former game director of Magic: The Gathering, a globally loved franchise. Trophy Hunters doesn’t have this level of expertise on the project, or if they do, it hasn’t been shared to us. Ultimately, as with all projects, NFT games live and die by the community. It will be fascinating to see if the project can fulfill the early promise it is showing.
