After launching features that allow artists to promote tickets and merchandise on their profiles, music streaming powerhouse Spotify is now testing out NFTs on the platform.
The test enables a select number of Spotify Android users in the USA to preview NFTs on artists’ profile pages If the NFT takes the listener’s fancy, they can be directed to external marketplaces (such as OpenSea) which showcase the NFT’s collection.
Although, due to its exclusive nature, it remains unclear which artists are involved in the test, reports are suggesting that the notorious early-NFT-adopters Steve Aoki and The Wombats are the most prominent artists involved in the initiative.
For now, the feature is solely in a testing phase. It is unclear whether it will be rolled out to the masses, or merely serve as a learning experience. To decide its fate, data (such as ‘impression’ traffic on each promoted NFT) is being recorded, together with surveys for users to provide feedback on the feature.
