Sex Pistols Launch a Physical and NFT Coin to ‘Commemorate’ the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee

May 31, 2022

A ‘Pistol Mint Commemorative Coin’ based on the song ‘God Save the Queen’ by legendary rock band ‘Sex Pistols’ has been launched to ironically celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

The coin comes in two editions: physical and digital. Both include a nickel-aesthetic, the iconic Jamie Reid-designed Union Jack flag (which is notoriously associated with the band), and a comedic depiction of the Queen with a lip piercing. In addition to these features, each NFT will also come in ‘a number of designs, randomly assigned upon minting’.

The assets are available to purchase throughout the month of June, with their distribution taking place on July 28th. To acquire both editions, you must mint the NFT edition via The Pistol Mint for around $30 a piece.

By design, the coin’s announcement comes just days after the re-release of the band’s anti-royalist single ‘God Save The Queen’, which was originally released for the monarch’s Silver Jubilee in the summer of 1977.
