Just three months after the launch of Moonbirds, an addition to the PROOF collective, entrepreneur Kevin Rose has acquired Divergence, a web3-based engineering team to lead their ‘social universe’ initiative.
While the acquisition of Divergence is new, the team has played a pivotal role in the building of PROOF. Besides the smart contract development of collections such as The Kiss Precise and Brotchain, Divergence previously worked on the PROOF membership pass and the Moonbirds launch, adding to the team’s extensive experience on the Ethereum blockchain.
“If you rewind a couple of months, Kevin was one of our investors,” said Angharad Thomas, a Divergence co-founder. “We thought, ‘Why are you building over there and we [are] building over here?’ Why don’t we do it together and combine the technical R&D lab with Kevin’s incredible product vision and community building.”
The history between Divergence and Kevin Rose has allowed for the engineering firm’s co-founders, Angharad Thomas and Arran Schlosberg, to play a vital role in the future of the PROOF collective. According to the project’s press release, Thomas will be PROOF’s director of products while Schlosberg will become PROOF’s vice president of engineering. The two co-founders will play a crucial role in the future development of the ‘social universe’, a campaign that the PROOF collective has teased since its launch in April of 2022.
While the idea of a ‘social universe’ screams metaverse to web3 investors, Rose has stated that the initiative will be unique, unlike anything we’ve seen. Rose has stated that he plans on continuing the development of web3, citing that the current tools in use were built for web2. “We’re trying to build something where we can interact with the rich data behind the scenes,” stated Rose. “The universe and the social tools that we’re building will be in a phased approach, where we’ll see these very small wins over time add up to a pretty compelling social product.”
Even though PROOF’s ‘social universe’ has been teased with Rose continuing to drop hints, most are still unsure of what to expect. However, with Rose’s previous successes in the form of the PROOF collective and Moonbirds, many agree that it will be worth the wait.
