What is Generative Monster Suit Collection?

The ‘Generative Monster Suit Collection’ is a collaborative NFT project created by Crystal Roots LLC and USGME. The collection will have 10,000 NFTs, and the presale mint date is scheduled for May 1st, 2022. The public sale details surrounding their mint are expected to be announced shortly.

Story / Background

‘Generative Monster Suit Collection’ is a community-driven project from Crystal Roots LLC and USGMEN. They have launched several different NFT collections in the past, including their first Genesis collection on February 10th, 2022, called ‘Rue NFTs’. The ‘Rue NFTs’ Genesis collection consists of 111 NFTs, and they hold a current floor price of 0.8 ETH at the time of writing. The Crystal Roots team is preparing to launch their 2nd phase, called the ‘Generative Monster Suit Collection’ (Gen 2, 2D), which will have a total collection size of 10,000 NFTs.

Utility

Five different ‘Monster Suit Chips’ are currently available to purchase, separate from the ‘Generative Monster Suit Collection’. Each Monster Suit grants holders a different utility, and an official photo detailing each utility is included in the photo below. In a nutshell, anyone holding a Monster Suit Chip #048 NFT will be able to mint 2 NFTs and up to a maximum of 4 per wallet if they own 2 Monster Chip #048 NFTs. Those that own all 5 Monster Suit Chips will gain additional perks and bonuses, including free merch, voting on future designs, event participation, a chance to win a 1 of 1 from USGMEN, a chance to help with the anime board (manga/anime), access to the Rue DAO, access to join the Rue NFT Council, and more. There is also an option to burn 5 Monster Suit Chips for a golden key. Specific information regarding the golden key is currently yet to be announced. More utilities are expected to be released to the public in the future. So far, there have also been hints regarding phase 3, including a 3D avatar collection and the metaverse that will be accessible for those who hold Monster Suit Chip #100. Monster Suit Chip #100 NFTs will serve as the 3D avatar collection mint pass when it gets released in the future.

Roadmap

This is one of those projects underpromising on their roadmap in hopes of overdelivering. According to the main artist behind Rue NFTs, @freshmoss, the roadmap will be 100% about “art, branding, and community”. There are very few details surrounding the specifics of their roadmap.

The next part of their roadmap includes their release of Gen3 Rue NFTs, which will be mintable by those who own a Monster Suit Chip #100 NFT. All Monster Suit Chip #100 holders will be eligible to mint up to 4 NFTs, with their first mint being free of charge. The current date for the 3D Gen3 NFT Collection is pending and is expected to be released sometime after the launch of the Rue NFT 2nd phase, i.e. the Generative Monster Suit Collection launch.

Marketing & Community

Looking at the current marketing efforts of Rue NFT, USGMEN, and the CrystalRootsLLC Twitter pages, the Generative Monster Suit team is choosing to purposefully not run many giveaways that are usually associated with lower-tier NFT projects. Their latest giveaways were with Shinsei Galaverse and Wonderpals on Twitter.

Collabs

According to the Announcements on their Discord Server, all collaboration requests are currently closed. A specific channel is dedicated to partnerships and collaborations on their official Discord server. However, the only listed partner project is Small Cute Cats, another NFT project created by renowned Japanese digital artist USGMEN.

It is also important to note that UGMEN is a CoolCats & Doodles NFT holder and a part of those NFT communities. He currently flaunts both CoolCats and Doodles NFTs, even though nothing public has been announced yet regarding any collaborations or partnerships with those bluechip projects.

Analysis

Bullish case

The RUE NFT Team has a proven track record with experience launching various NFT projects. The ‘Generative Monster Suit Collection’ NFTs have a low barrier to entry and an affordable mint cost, so this makes for a great potential project worth looking into for those looking to grow their portfolio with minimal risk.

The current trend, thanks to Moonbirds, is the release of Genesis passes and second collections. In the example of Moonbirds, the PROOF Collective first released a 1,000 Genesis NFT set before launching their second phase called Moonbirds with a total supply of 10,000 NFTs. Many second collections, including Moonbirds, end up retaining approximately 20% of the value of the first Genesis collection (ie: CyberKongz vs CyberKongz VX as another example). It is important to note the floor price of the Rue NFT Genesis Collection (current 0.8 ETH at the time of writing) right before and during the mint phase, which will be a good gauge of the price action we can expect to see with the ‘Generative Monster Suit Collection’ itself.

Reservations

A collection size of 10,000 NFTs is not a small number, and the project must be able to sell out quickly during their mint phases. Many projects that don’t sell out during the mint phase end up fizzling out and cannot survive the FUD that will ensue in their Discord server. The Generative Monster Suit Collection is not an overly hyped or well-known project, which presents a potential risk to investors, especially if they are unable to sell out.

Looking at their current marketing efforts, the RUE NFT Team seems like they are fairly closed off trying to do their own thing with their own various NFT projects. Collaborations are becoming more and more critical for an NFT project’s survival and overall long-term success. It is still to be seen if the RUE NFT team will begin to ramp up their marketing and collaborative efforts to ensure they can survive in any market condition for the long haul.
