What is The Otherside Metaverse (BAYC Land Sale)?
The Otherside is the official gaming metaverse project from the team behind BAYC and MAYC. Initially, the BAYC and MAYC NFTs granted membership access to all holders into the “swamp club for apes”. On April 30th, 2022 the BAYC will launch the first phase of its metaverse land sale through a Dutch Auction, where 100,000 parcels will be up for grabs. All BAYC and MAYC holders will be able to claim a land parcel for free. Story / Background
The Otherside is the official gaming metaverse project from the team behind BAYC and MAYC. Initially, the BAYC and MAYC NFTs granted membership access to all holders into the “swamp club for apes”. On April 30th, 2022 the BAYC will launch the first phase of its metaverse land sale through a Dutch Auction, where 100,000 parcels will be up for grabs. All BAYC and MAYC holders will be able to claim a land parcel for free. BAYC (short for Bored Ape Yacht Club) was an NFT project started by a group of 4 friends less than a year ago. The BAYC collection is currently worth 1,457,000 ETH (10,000 x 145.7 ETH) which is approximately $4,276,877,800 at writing. In addition to BAYC, the Yuga Labs team is responsible for many other high-profile blue-chip collections on OpenSea, including Bored Ape Chemistry Club, Mutant Ape Yacht Club, and Bored Ape Kennel Club, making them one of the most profitable NFT projects to date. They recently acquired CryptoPunks and Meebits, which have now also become a part of the Yuga Labs ecosystem.
Yuga Labs (the team behind BAYC, MAYC, etc.) has been a leader in the NFT space for quite some time, pioneering creative ways of providing more value to its holders over time. The latest utility to be added to the Yuga Labs ecosystem is ‘The Otherside’ metaverse gaming project. All BAYC and MAYC holders will be able to claim a land parcel for free, anytime within 21 days after the conclusion of the land sale.
Utility
Additional information and utility surrounding the land parcels and the Otherside metaverse is yet to be released. The current rumors that have been circulating are saying that the Otherside game will include all kinds of other NFT collections, not so different from NFT interoperability concepts first used by Worldwide Webb Land (which is all speculation at this time).
Roadmap
Launch of Otherside, a 3D BAYC gaming metaverse powered by Animoca Brands. From the 100,000 lands that will become available, 10,000 Kodas will be randomly assigned to various plots of land. There is a lot of hype surrounding Kodas, and owning a Koda will likely prove extremely valuable once released. Additional information is expected to be announced shortly.

Bored Ape Yacht Club has a cult-like following with one of the strongest communities in the NFT space. Some notable public figures that proudly own and sport their NFTs include names like Justin Bieber, Jimmy Fallon, Lil Baby, Mark Cuban, and Snoop Dogg. In addition to this, the BAYC community is well known for the business networking that goes on behind closed doors as each member is treated like family, and every member tries to add their own value in any way they can.
Analysis
Bullish case
The Yuga Labs team has proven time and time again that they are the leader when it comes to innovation and providing value to holders in the NFT space. They have been second to none when it comes to delivering on their promises and timelines. The entire cryptocurrency market and the NFT market are feeling the ripple effects in preparation for this historic launch. There is speculation that these land parcels will end up being more valuable than the actual BAYC NFTs over time, although this is based purely on speculation at this time. When looking at other metaverses like Sandbox and Decentraland, the land parcels are worth more than any of their other NFTs, so something similar is a realistic possibility.
Reservations
A metaverse land sale of this size has never been made before. The starting price of the Dutch Auction is starting at 300 $APE Coins which is currently valued at approximately 2.7 ETH at the time of writing. Trying to sell out of 100,000 land units starting at that high of a price may turn out to be a tall task, even if it is the Yuga Labs team who are the best in the business.
