Adobe has officially thrown its hat into the AI-ring with a suite of tools it is calling Firefly.
While people are astounded by the AI art being created by Midjourney (especially its latest V5 model), Firefly promises to take AI-powered art generation to the next level.

What is Adobe Firefly?
Firefly is a series of AI tools developed by Adobe. These tools promise to reduce the time it takes for designers to complete tedious tasks, and will also push the boundaries of what is possible in graphic design.
The tools, including tech-to-image generation, will be first integrated into Adobe Express, Photoshop and Illustrator. Firefly is available in beta starting today (more details below).
Why is Adobe Firefly a game changer for graphic designers?
In Midjourney (and other generative art tools like DALL·E 2 and Stable Diffusion), you can create beautiful art and graphics. The problem with these tools is that the output is a JPEG that cannot be amended or tweaked without using other image editing software.
Firefly changes this. By integrating generative art capabilities within Adobe’s suite of applications and services, users will be able to manipulate and amend the art as they wish. They will also be able to export their results in any file type they need.
What can Adobe Firely do?
Adobe Firefly is a suite of different AI tools that will allow inexperienced designers to perform complex editing techniques in seconds. The beta version of Firefly (which launched this week) has the following tools available:
- Text to image: Create unique images from a detailed text description
- Text effects: Apply styles or textures to text with a text prompt
- Recolor vectors: Create unique variations of your artwork from a detailed text description
What can we expect in the future?
What’s more, Adobe has big plans to expand its range of AI tools. Here are just a few of the tools that are in exploration.
- Template generation: Generate editable templates from image prompts (like a moodboard) or detailed text descriptions
- Inpainting: Use a brush to add, remove, or replace objects in an image. Generate the new fill with a text prompt
- Generate variations: Select elements of your image, and ask Firefly to generate possible variations of that element
- Sketch to vector: Turn simple drawings into editable vector images
- Next-level product photos: Put your products in any image you can imagine
